WhatsApp Introduces New Customization Features: Chat Themes, Wallpapers, and More

WhatsApp is rolling out a suite of new features designed to give users more control over personalizing their messaging experience. The update includes customizable chat themes, expanded wallpaper options, and more, allowing users to tailor the look and feel of their conversations like never before.

One of the standout additions is the introduction of chat themes, which enable users to customize both chat bubbles and backgrounds. Users can choose from pre-set themes that change both elements simultaneously or mix and match colors to create unique themes that suit their preferences. These themes can be applied uniformly across all chats and channels or customized individually for each conversation. Notably, the themes are only visible to the user who sets them, unlike Instagram’s chat themes (also owned by Meta), which are visible to all participants.

In addition to chat themes, WhatsApp has expanded its wallpaper library with 30 new options, giving users even more ways to personalize their chat backgrounds. For those who prefer a more personal touch, the option to upload custom images from their camera roll remains available.

To access these new features, users can follow these steps:

  • iOS: Tap the chat name at the top of the screen to customize individual chat themes.
  • Android: Open the three-dot menu within a chat and select ‘Chat theme’ to customize.
  • For a default theme across all chats and channels, navigate to Settings > Chats > Default chat theme.

The new features are currently being rolled out globally and are expected to reach all users in the coming weeks. This update reflects WhatsApp’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience and providing greater flexibility in customizing the app’s interface.
