At just 13 years and 243 days old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made history by becoming the youngest player to secure an IPL contract, worth Rs 1.10 crore. The left-handed top-order batter from Bihar was signed by Rajasthan Royals (RR) just days before his 14th birthday.
Suryavanshi,
who has already represented India Under-19, showcased his talent earlier this
year by scoring a century as an opener in a four-day match against Australia in
Chennai, just two months ago.

Suryavanshi's
journey to the IPL saw intense competition, as bids began at his base price of
INR 30 lakh. Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) engaged in an
intense bidding war, with RR eventually winning the race to sign the talented
cricketer.
After the auction, Rajasthan Royals CEO Jake Lush McCrum expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "Vaibhav has been to our high-performance center in Nagpur, where he underwent trials and impressed our coaching staff. He’s an incredible talent, and while confidence will be key for him to perform at the IPL level, there’s still much work to be done in the coming months to help him develop further. He’s a fantastic prospect, and we’re thrilled to have him join our franchise.
"Vaibhav Suryavanshi, hailing from Samastipur, a city about 100 kilometers northeast of Patna, is quickly making a name for himself in Indian cricket. Having made his debut against Mumbai earlier this year, he has already featured in five Ranji Trophy matches. Currently, he is representing Bihar in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, competing in T20 cricket. On November 23, he made his T20 debut against Rajasthan, marking another milestone in his promising cricketing career.
Vaibhav
Suryavanshi's most notable achievement to date is his remarkable century
against Australia U-19, where he scored 104 runs off just 58 balls. At 13 years
and 187 days old, he became the youngest player to score a century in youth
cricket, breaking the previous record held by Bangladesh's current captain,
Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was 14 years and 241 days when he set the record.
Suryavanshi
also achieved an impressive triple-century, remaining unbeaten on 332 runs in
the U-19 Randhir Verma Tournament in Bihar. Inspired by his idol Brian Lara, he
also seeks guidance from former India opener Wasim Jaffer to refine his skills.
The two initially crossed paths during a U-19 white-ball tournament in
Bangladesh in November 2023.
Vaibhav's
father has been his primary coach, recognizing his potential early on. After
failing to progress through the higher levels himself, he shifted his focus to
coaching Vaibhav, helping nurture his son's passion for cricket and guiding him
toward a professional career.
