New Delhi: Indian Railways has introduced a range of travel concessions to make journeys more affordable for specific groups, including students, people with disabilities, and patients with critical illnesses. These discounts are part of the Railways' initiative to support those in need by easing the financial burden of travel. Here’s a detailed breakdown of who can benefit from these concessions:

Concessions for Passengers with Disabilities

Passengers with various disabilities, including: 

·  Visual impairment 

·  Mental challenges 

·  Complete hearing and speech loss 

·  Total physical disability 

Eligible Discounts:

·  75% discount available in General, Sleeper, and 3AC classes

·  50% discount in 1AC and 2AC classes.

·  25% discount for 3AC and AC Chair Car bookings on premium trains (Rajdhani, Shatabdi, etc.).  

Additionally, escorts accompanying disabled passengers are entitled to the same discount, ensuring affordable travel for both. A dedicated PwD quota will also be available on all trains, including premium services such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Humsafar, Gatimaan, and Vande Bharat.

Discounts for Patients with Critical Medical Conditions

Patients undergoing treatment for the following conditions are entitled to special fare concessions: 

·  Cancer 

·  Thalassemia 

·  Heart diseases 

·  Kidney disorders 

·  Haemophilia 

·  Tuberculosis (TB) 

·  AIDS 

·  Ostomy 

·  Anemia and Aplastic Anemia  

This initiative helps ease the travel expenses for patients seeking medical care across India.

Concessions for Students

Students can avail fare discounts for journeys: 

· To their hometowns

·   For educational tours and excursions  

Discounts:

50% to 75%, depending on the train class. 

These concessions are especially useful for students traveling long distances for academic purposes.
