OpenAI has
officially launched ChatGPT Search for all users, making it a direct competitor
to Google and other search engines. Previously limited to paid
subscribers, the feature is now available to all users with an OpenAI account
through the company's website and mobile apps. The announcement was made during a recent event, where
OpenAI emphasized that the search engine has been significantly enhanced to
deliver a smoother and more advanced user experience.
ChatGPT
Search: Key Updates
ChatGPT
Search, first introduced in November 2024, has undergone notable
improvements. The company has rolled out a mobile-optimized version designed
for seamless performance on smartphones and tablets. Additionally, users can
now leverage Advanced Voice Search, which enables hands-free
interaction. By using voice commands, users can ask questions and receive
responses directly, enhancing the overall convenience and accessibility of the
search feature.
OpenAI’s
AI-driven search engine sets itself apart by providing contextually accurate
results powered by natural language processing, going beyond traditional
link-based results. This positions ChatGPT Search as a strong alternative for
users seeking a more intuitive and interactive search experience.
Real-Time
Video and Screen Sharing in ChatGPT
In a related
update, OpenAI unveiled real-time video and screen sharing as part of
its Advanced Voice Mode feature for ChatGPT. Demonstrated during the same
event, this capability allows users to share their screens and seek live
assistance on tasks, such as solving complex math problems or reviewing
content.
To activate
the new features:
- A video
icon at the bottom-left of the chat window initiates video calls.
- To share their screen, users can tap the
three-dot menu and choose the "Share Screen" option.
This feature
builds on OpenAI’s earlier showcase of GPT-4's ability to observe and describe
on-screen activities, initially hinted at in May. After overcoming production
delays, OpenAI has now fully implemented the feature.
Availability
The video
and screen-sharing features are now available on iOS and Android apps for users
of ChatGPT Teams, Plus, and Pro. OpenAI plans to extend the rollout to ChatGPT
Enterprise and Edu subscribers in January. However, it’s worth
noting that Advanced Voice Mode will remain unavailable in certain EU
countries.
