Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant refused to dwell on a crucial missed stumping opportunity as Delhi Capitals pulled off a dramatic one-wicket victory in a high-scoring IPL 2025 thriller in Visakhapatnam. Ashutosh Sharma's unbeaten 66 proved decisive, steering DC home in a tense final-over finish.
With DC needing six runs off the last six balls, Pant handed the ball to Shahbaz Ahmed. The first delivery saw Mohit Sharma charge down the track and miss, but Pant fumbled the stumping chance. A subsequent LBW review also went in vain, with replays showing the ball missing the stumps. Mohit scrambled a single, putting Ashutosh on strike, who promptly sealed the win with a towering six.
"Luck is a big factor in cricket," Pant reflected. "The stumping opportunity was there, but these things happen." We can't dwell on one moment—we just need to focus on playing better cricket."
Earlier, LSG posted a formidable total after being sent in to bat, powered by Mitchell Marsh's 72 and Nicholas Pooran's 75. However, DC's chase looked in tatters at 65/5 before Ashutosh orchestrated a stunning comeback. Key partnerships—55 with Vipraj Nigam (39), 45 with Tristan Stubbs, and 43 between Axar Patel and Faf du Plessis—kept DC in the hunt.
Pant acknowledged the fightback: "They built crucial partnerships—Ashutosh, Stubbs, and Nigam took the game away. There was help for bowlers, but we needed to execute basics betterStill, there are many positives to build on."
Despite the narrow defeat, Pant remained upbeat about LSG's progress, emphasizing learning from close games as the season unfolds.
