Punjab Kings have made a strong start in the Indian Premier
League (IPL) 2025, securing back-to-back victories and claiming the second spot
on the points table. Royal Challengers Bengaluru currently hold the top
position due to a superior net run rate.
In their second match of the season, Punjab Kings
convincingly defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 8 wickets while chasing a target
of 172. Prabhsimran Singh played a match-winning knock, scoring 69 runs off
just 34 deliveries, including 9 fours and 3 sixes, earning him the Player of
the Match award.
Under the leadership of newly appointed captain Shreyas Iyer
and head coach Ricky Ponting, Punjab Kings have revamped their squad and
coaching staff. The franchise retained only two players—Shashank Singh and
Prabhsimran Singh—while bringing in fresh support under Ponting’s guidance.
Prabhsimran attributed the team's strong start to Ponting's
guidance and captaincy. With victories over Gujarat Titans in their opening
game and Lucknow Super Giants in their second, both wins have come away from
home.
"Ricky Ponting is a true legend, and his words are
always full of positivity." There’s no ‘if’ in his dictionary. He
encourages us to go out and win games. The team management is backing us, and
that support is crucial to finishing matches successfully,” Prabhsimran said.
He also highlighted the importance of practice and
consistency. “I’ve been working on my shots in the nets, and it was great to
execute them in the match against Lucknow. This performance will boost my
confidence for the upcoming games. "My advice to young players is to stay
consistent and always give their 100% for the team. That’s how you turn the
dream of representing India into reality," he added.
