Indian
Railways has cancelled more than 300 trains as a precautionary measure ahead of
the impending landfall of Cyclonic Storm Dana. The cyclone is expected to hit
the coastal regions near Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port on Friday,
prompting the evacuation of nearly one million people from Odisha and West
Bengal.
The
cancellations impact both express and passenger services. The South
Eastern Railway (SER) division has suspended over 150 trains,
including key routes such as the Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Express, Kamakhya-Yesvantpur
AC Express, Howrah-Puri Shatabdi Express, Howrah-Bhubaneswar
Shatabdi Express, and Howrah-Yesvantpur Express.
In addition,
the East Coast Railways (ECoR) has cancelled 198 trains,
affecting services on major routes such as Howrah-Secunderabad, Shalimar-Puri, Kamakhya-Bangalore, New
Delhi-Bhubaneswar, Kharagpur-Villupuram, and Howrah-Bhubaneswar.
Several other trains, including Shalimar-Hyderabad, Howrah-Puri,
and other long-distance routes, are also suspended.
The
disruption extends to EMU local train services in West Bengal.
Services between Sealdah station and Hasnabad will remain
suspended from 8 PM on Thursday until Friday as a safety
measure to avoid any incidents during the cyclone's impact.
Additionally, Eastern
Railways has announced cancellations for several express trains,
including the Patna-Ernakulam Express, Kolkata-Puri Express, Dibrugarh-Kanniyakumari
Express, and the Bengaluru-Guwahati Express.
The
cancellations come as part of the Indian Railways' proactive steps to ensure
passenger safety amid severe weather conditions. Authorities are closely
monitoring the situation and advising passengers to check the latest updates
before planning their travel. With widespread evacuation efforts already
underway, the focus is on minimizing disruptions while ensuring public safety
during the storm’s landfall.
Passengers
are urged to stay updated on cancellations via official railway channels,
including the IRCTC website and mobile app.
