As Jigra
faces mixed reviews and struggles at the box office, Samantha Ruth Prabhu has
come out in support of the film and its lead actor, Alia Bhatt. Samantha took
to Instagram to share her thoughts, praising Alia's performance and applauding
the film’s team for their efforts.
In her post, Samantha shared a poster of Jigra featuring Alia Bhatt and her
co-star Vedang Raina. She described Alia as a "tigress," praising her
for delivering a dynamic and captivating performance. Samantha wrote,
"@aliaabhatt, you tigress! Your performance was so energetic and full of
life that I couldn't look away!" .
She praised
Vasan Bala for pushing the boundaries in portraying a female lead, saying,
"@vasanbala, you've crafted such a unique film and truly redefined how a
female protagonist can be presented! Thank you! I'm still vibing with the
energy of your film."
Her compliments didn’t stop there. Samantha gave a special shout-out to Vedang
Raina, describing him as a rising talent to watch. She mentioned a standout
moment in the film, saying, "The lashings scene... you had me gasping! So
visceral."
Samantha
also acknowledged other cast members, including her close friend Rahul
Ravindran. "Rahul, my dearest... Your best performance yet! Your action
scenes were so good! You made me forget I was watching my best friend—I could
only see Muthu!" she wrote. Samantha also appreciated the efforts of Manoj
ji, Vivek, and the rest of the cast, stating they had given "superb
performances." She concluded her note by praising the film’s music and
score by Achint Thakkar, calling it unforgettable.
However,
despite the love from Samantha, Jigra hasn’t had the smoothest release. Some
reports indicate that the film had a slow start at the box office, with opening
collections reported to be ₹16.6 crore, making it one of Alia’s lowest openers
since Highway in 2014.
Adding to
the challenges, actor Divya Khossla Kumar criticized the film’s reported box
office numbers. On her Instagram Stories, she claimed that Alia had purchased
tickets to inflate the movie's earnings. Divya shared a picture of an empty
theatre and accused the media of remaining silent about the poor turnout.
"I attended a screening of Jigra at Citi Mall PVR." The theatre was
totally empty... #Aliabhatt has real #Jigra to buy tickets herself and announce
fake collections," Divya wrote, calling for honesty from the film
industry.
Jigra,
directed by Vasan Bala and produced under Dharma Productions, revolves around
the emotional journey of a sister determined to rescue her brother. The movie
was released on Friday and is presented by Viacom18 Studios and Eternal
Sunshine Productions.
Ahead of the release, Alia Bhatt promoted the film in Hyderabad, where Samantha
Ruth Prabhu also joined her at the event. Alia praised Samantha’s strength and
resilience during the event and shared how Samantha immediately accepted her
invitation to join the promotion. Alia even sang Samantha’s hit song "Oo
Antava" from Pushpa on stage, creating a buzz.
Despite the
criticism and challenges at the box office, Samantha’s heartfelt praise shows
her admiration for Alia Bhatt's talent and her belief in the movie’s artistic
value.
