The events and struggles of one’s life can seldom be
forgotten, they become a part of our life. The pride and admiration felt
after a success moves us deeply. All of our actions together in that incredible
moment, is felt completely professional and instinctive. Anticipation can only
do so much. It takes a more profound inner strength to survive the period of
struggle.
During my graduation years, I had always imagined to
work for some of the Fortune 500 companies, with a good package and working
tirelessly to attain stability and growth. This was not only my imagination by
all my batchmates, some of us were able to achieve this, while others
struggled. However, over the period of time, I realized there was something
which lacked and I started to wonder, if I need to put in so much of efforts
then, why not put in these efforts in my own venture. Although this was a big
risk, as not I had a family and had to tend to their needs.
When I shared the idea of starting my own venture, I
was surprised to see all my family members supporting me and asking for the
plans. Over the period of time, I started to do a 360-degree analysis, laying
down all the contingencies’ plans, making an exit strategy etc etc. I started
to read the success stories of many entrepreneurs, who had left their job and
opened their own start up. That was the time for start up boom, and there were
many incentives offered by the government and other agencies etc. I started to
lay down the ground work and consulted many of my friends who supported my
wholeheartedly. I knew that starting my own startup would mean many a sleepless
nights and anxiety. While I was doing pre work for my new business, I was also
thinking on hiring the right skillset, location of the work location,
rejuvenating my contacts in my respective domain,, etc.
Finally, the day came, when we invited my friends,
colleagues and contacts to come over for Hawan and the inauguration. It was my
first day at my work and I along with my team started to work on a few projects
which were able to get. Although the in terms of the payout, it wasn’t much,
but having my own startup, achieved my ultimate goal of independence and even
more important was to a contribution to help Indian economy to the third
largest economy in the world. I was also very happy that I was able to generate
employment opportunities for our skilled workforce. Once the business started
to expand, it had its fair share of set backs and issues and worries. There was
a time when I even felt a little de-motivated, however, it was very important
to keep the team motivated and engaged. At the same time, I also wanted to talk
about career progression of everyone. In my personal opinion, it is important
that the employees, are constantly shown a direction of how their career will
be transformed if they are associated with us. I always make it a point that, I
have a one On One Monthly meeting, to keep them motivated. Additionally, I am a
firm believer, of upgrading the skill set of the employees so that they are
future ready.
Now to conclude, I am very satisfied and happy that I
took the right decision of having my own business, despite the struggles and
setback. This is common phenomenon, in all business and is a part of learning.
