Forget
outdated dating norms—Tinder is rewriting the rules of modern romance, and
splitting the bill is just the beginning. This International Women’s Day, the
dating app launched ‘Her New Dating Rulebook,’ a bold guide challenging
traditional dating expectations, including the age-old practice of men paying
on first dates. According to Tinder, this classic gesture may soon be a relic
of the past.
As dating
dynamics evolve, Tinder’s research reveals that young women in India are
embracing a more progressive and relaxed approach to relationships. An in-app
survey shows that 38% of female users are primarily seeking new experiences,
while 29% appreciate the reduced pressure to find a ‘happily ever after.’
The new
rulebook emphasizes authenticity, mutual respect, and genuine connections over
traditional romantic gestures. Modern chivalry, as per Tinder’s findings, is
less about grand gestures and more about consistent, meaningful actions. For
example, 51% of young women value reliability—like sticking to plans or showing
up on time—over symbolic acts such as paying the bill on a first date.
“Modern
dating is about rewriting the rules. It’s no longer about outdated gestures but
about fostering real connections and mutual respect. Women today are
prioritizing relationships that feel authentic and safe, celebrating the
freedom to choose what works for them,” says Dr. Chandni Tugnait, Tinder’s
Relationship Expert in India.
Safety
remains a top priority for Tinder, with over half of female users stating they
would unmatch immediately upon receiving inappropriate messages. The platform
has strengthened its safety features, including ‘Are You Sure?,’ ‘Does This
Bother You?,’ and ‘Share My Date,’ to promote respectful
interactions and ensure users feel secure throughout their dating journey.
Authenticity
is also key, with 53% of female users rejecting incomplete or misleading
profiles. Shirtless mirror selfies, for instance, are a turn-off for more than
a third of women surveyed. Instead, detailed profiles that showcase personality
and interests are far more appealing.
Aditi
Shorewal, Tinder India’s Communications Lead, adds, “As modern dating continues
to evolve, Tinder is leading the charge—empowering women with features like ‘Are
You Sure?’ and ‘Does This Bother You?’ to maintain respectful
interactions, and ‘Share My Date’ to keep their trusted circle informed.
Tinder is a space full of possibilities, and we’re committed to helping women
craft their own dating stories, free from outdated norms. This International
Women’s Day, we’re thrilled to celebrate how women in India are reshaping the
dating landscape, redefining modern chivalry through respect, authenticity, and
the freedom to choose what feels right.”
With ‘Her
New Dating Rulebook,’ Tinder is not just reflecting the changing tides of
romance but also empowering women to take charge of their dating journeys, one
genuine connection at a time.
