Spanish
defence and technology company Indra has announced Angel Escribano as its new
chairman. This decision follows the departure of Marc Murtra, the former
chairman, who has accepted the role of CEO at telecom giant Telefónica.
Murtra’s appointment as Telefónica's CEO on Saturday came at the request of
SEPI, a state-owned fund.
In an
extraordinary board meeting held on Sunday, Indra's board selected Escribano to
take over as chairman. The board expressed gratitude to Murtra for his
leadership and significant contributions during his tenure. In a statement, the
board highlighted Murtra’s efforts in transforming the Indra Group and laying
the groundwork for a strong future business strategy.
Angel
Escribano brings substantial experience to his new role. He is the CEO and
owner of Escribano Mechanical & Engineering, a privately owned company that
operates within the military industry. Escribano has also been a shareholder in
Indra since May 2023.
Indra, a key
player in the defence and technology sector, is poised for continued growth
under Escribano’s leadership. His expertise and industry background are
expected to strengthen the company’s position in the market and drive its
future projects.
This
leadership change marks a new chapter for both Indra and Telefónica, with both
companies looking to advance their strategic goals under their newly appointed
leaders.
