Sam Konstas, making his Test debut for Australia, created history against India during the Boxing Day Test. At just 19 years old, he became the fourth-youngest player to debut for Australia, receiving his Baggy Green cap before the match began. Known for his aggressive batting style, Konstas entertained fans with his T20-like shots during the first session.
Despite a
shaky start, the right-hander soon found his rhythm and began playing bold,
flashy strokes against India's top bowlers. In the third over, he attempted a
ramp shot against Jasprit Bumrah but missed. Unfazed, Konstas tried it again in
the seventh over, this time connecting beautifully. He hit Bumrah for a
boundary and a six off the first two balls, followed by another boundary later
in the over.
With that
six, Konstas achieved a rare feat: he became the first batsman since 2021 to
hit a six off Bumrah in Test cricket. Before this, Bumrah had bowled 4,484
balls in Tests without being hit for a six. The last batsman to achieve this
was Cameron Green, four years ago.
Konstas
reached his half-century in just 52 balls and is now aiming for a century on
debut. If he succeeds, he’ll join an elite group of Australian players,
including Michael Clarke, who scored centuries in their debut matches against
India.
India’s
Batting Order Changes
India made
adjustments to their batting lineup for this match. Captain Rohit Sharma will
open the innings, returning to his usual role after batting in the middle order
during the second and third Tests. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has been dropped,
and Washington Sundar has been brought in as an all-rounder. Sundar also played
in the first Test of the series in Perth.
